Kia ora whānau, and welcome to 2025 and the new school year.
We hope by now you’re settling into your new school routine with your tamariki. 2025 is a big year, as we have already had 38 new students join our Our Lady of Kāpiti School family - and we will have more join us throughout the year.
We'd also like to extend our welcome to our new staff members: Hannah McCardle (Rm 2), Emma Orchard (Teacher Aide), Steve Whitfield, Kaye Gilman, and Rachel Kriechbaum (Release Teachers). Additionally, Kirstin Smith will be completing her Diploma of Teaching with us, spending two days a week in Room 14 this year.
We have an upcoming Open Evening on February 26th at 4:30pm, and we’d love for you and your whānau to join us. I’ll be there along with some of my fellow board members to chat with you and answer any questions you have for the board. Our current board members are Ryan Teahan, Nicole O’Grady, Lyndsey Gibson, David Orchard, Nicola Green, Lilian Singson, and Father Raymond. We also have our staff representative Michelle Hedge and our Principal Viv Conroy.
A huge congratulations to Viv, who has been awarded a 10-week sabbatical starting in Week 10 of Term 1. She will be researching transitions from early childhood to primary school, with a focus on neurodiversity. Her journey includes visits to Catholic schools in New Zealand, and the UK. Viv will also visit Rome, as well as the Presentation Sisters in Cork. While she is away, Mrs. Hedge will step in as Acting Principal, supported by Mr. Mettrick and Mrs. Gordon.
I look forward to meeting many of you throughout the term.
