 Kia ora whānau,

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our school community evening yesterday! Despite the weather, we had a fantastic turnout, and it was wonderful to see both new and familiar faces coming together. The children had an absolute blast playing the games provided by Nuku Ora, and we’ve received so much positive feedback about the evening.

 We really appreciate your support and look forward to more great events ahead. 

Netball season is right around the corner, and we are getting ready! To start planning we need to know if your child would like to play. Netball is for both girls and boys.

2025 SEASON DATES

Year 3’s and 4’s (10 weeks)
• 5 aside game format
• Games are played on Monday afternoons
• Season dates are 5th May – 28th July (excluding 2nd June - Kings Birthday and the 2 Mondays of the school holiday 30th & 7th June)
Cost will be $70 per player

Year 5-8 (Winter Season Competition)
• Games run over Terms 2 and 3
• 7 aside game format
• Game day is Saturday
• The season starts on 3rd May with finals scheduled for 30th August
There are no games on King’s Birthday (31st May), Matariki weekend (21st June), and the middle week of the school holidays -5th July
Cost is $75 per player

NO PAY NO PLAY – Netball fees (subs)

The netball program operates under a NO PAY NO PLAY policy, as it is an optional activity and not included in the Ministry of Educations donation scheme. However, if the fees present a financial challenge or if you prefer to pay in instalments, please contact Kate in the Office.

Costs will be put on Kindo once all forms are in. Payment needs to be paid by the end of Term 1.

Coaches
As with any sport played through the school, we rely on volunteers (parents/friends) to help with coaching teams.
Please indicate on the Sporty registration form whether you are keen to coach a team. As a school, we will organise a meeting with coaches to answer any questions and we will give ongoing support throughout the season.
There will be some coaching and umpiring modules coming up, and the school will send you the information about these.

Umpires
Each team (from Year 7 upwards) requires an umpire. Please indicate on the form whether you would like to help. All umpires will need to do some courses but don’t let this put you off! If you know of someone (college student etc) who would like to umpire for a primary school team, please let me know.

OLOK Sweatshirts and Uniforms
Netball uniforms (Year 3 upwards) and sweatshirts will be handed out before the start of the season. Please note these are NOT part of the everyday school uniform so shouldn’t be worn at school. These must be returned at the end of the season. If the uniform or sweatshirt is lost or not returned, you will be charged for a replacement.

OLOK Teams
Once the teams are sorted and the coaches assigned to the teams, the team coach will notify you of practice days/times. It is important that you let your coach know if you are unable to make practice for any reason.

Conduct
We have an OLOK Netball Code of Conduct based around our FAITH values which we ask each player to sign.
These will be handed out before the season starts.

The Gala is just over a month away, and we need your help!

We have just started collecting children's games, puzzles, and clothing. Val will be at school from 2.00 - 3.00 pm this Friday to collect any donations. Alternatively, please contact Val on 027 466 3437 or email our PTA at sok@olok.school.nz.

Mystery Bags are always a big hit on Gala Day! Each family recieved a Mystery Bag to fill and we already have quite a few back - thank you! Each family is kindly asked to fill a bag with approximately $8–$10 worth of new, child-friendly items and return it to the school office. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can "purchase" a $10 Mystery Bag donation via Kindo.

Tips for stopping the spread of head lice:

If one member of the household has head lice, you will need to treat all family members in the household.

This can be effective if done properly as combing damages the egg, preventing it from hatching. If eggs do hatch then daily combing will remove the young lice before they can reproduce.

Several chemical treatments (insecticides) are available to treat head lice. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for effective treatment. The malathion based treatments are subsidised on prescription. Malathion cannot be used on children under six months of age. After using the treatment:
