Safety in the Car Park

We have had several concerning incidents in our car park recently, with parents reversing over the crossing and nearly hitting students. The safety of our children is our top priority, so we have placed two cones at the crossing to protect students. We kindly ask all parents to remain vigilant, take care when driving in the drop-off area, and avoid reversing over the crossing to prevent any accidents.

Additionally, for the safety of your children, when using the drop-off area, please ensure they are only exit the car on the curbside. Allowing children to exit vehicles into the road and traffic puts them in unnecessary danger.

Your cooperation is crucial in ensuring the safety of all our students.

The Importance of Arriving on Time

It is essential that all students arrive before the bell goes at 8:50 am. Unfortunately, we have noticed an increasing number of students arriving late, which disrupts the class and makes it harder for everyone to settle into the day. When a child arrives late, they miss important instructions and activities that set the tone for the day, leaving them feeling unsettled and behind their peers. We encourage parents to ensure their children are at school on time, ready to begin learning and participate fully from the start of the school day.

Head Lice

We have had a couple of cases of head lice at school

Tips for stopping the spread of head lice:

Don't share combs, hair brushes, hair ties or clips
Don't share hats or helmets
Tie up long hair in a ponytail, braid or bun
Don't touch heads
Don't share headphones
Don't share towels
If you have an itchy head, tell a grown up

How to treat?

If one member of the household has head lice, you will need to treat all family members in the household.

Wet Combing

This can be effective if done properly as combing damages the egg, preventing it from hatching. If eggs do hatch then daily combing will remove the young lice before they can reproduce.

Use lots of conditioner on dry hair to cover the whole scalp and all of the hair from roots to tip. The conditioner will slow down the head lice for approximately 20 minutes so leave the conditioner in the hair.
Divide the hair into small sections and comb carefully from the roots to the tip. Use a metal fine-toothed nit comb but remember to wipe the comb clean with a clean tissue in between strokes.
Wash out the conditioner after checking the hair carefully.
Repeat the combing twice more on consecutive nights and then weekly.

Chemical treatment

Several chemical treatments (insecticides) are available to treat head lice. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for effective treatment. The malathion based treatments are subsidised on prescription. Malathion cannot be used on children under six months of age. After using the treatment:

Check all members of the household daily for at least three weeks.
Comb the hair carefully to remove as many dead or live head lice and eggs as possible, eggs may also be removed using your finger and thumb.
Check the manufacturer’s instructions as some treatments need to be used twice.

A kiwi tale, featuring iconic NZ creatures, landscapes, and fresh waiata by NZ singer-songwriter Benny Tipene. Brought to the stage by the multi-award winning theatre company Horse With No Name, and made beautiful through costumes by Wellington Theatre Awards 2021 Costume Designer of the year GRIDLEY by Victoria, Trees, Bees and Me is a journey for the kiwi kids and the whole family!

A Kāpiti College production, Written by Paora Trim and Nicola Easthope, Directed by Paora Trim.

Set in the peaceful village of Parihaka, a husband and wife (Haeata and Maioha) are separated after he is arrested for protesting peacefully. Rolleston and Bryce make plans to clear the land and villagers. Te Whiti and Tohu have other ideas. When the land is taken, Haeata is sent to Dunedin prison to do hard labour.

This show made with the students of Kāpiti College is a combined effort using dance, original music pieces, poetry, kapa haka, drama and more. They have contributed original works which will be woven through a beautiful story of loss, love and hope. The Parihaka values established by Te Whiti and Tohu, such as equality, peace, non-violence, sanctuary and future, enable us to make our own "Parihaka".
